Moisten the remaining rubber with goo gone or another lubricant such as wd 40 or cooking oil. Dont know if would work for a longer time frame but was perfect solution for me and sheets are cheap even cheaper at goodwill or thrift stores. The only cure for this is to remove the top layer of finish affected. Hold a razor blade or putty knife level with the backing and pry it away gently.
